Google is great, in the past 6 months I've let it almost take over my life, as opposed letting Microsoft take over my life with Office Applications and Windows Passport. I've set up a couple of Blogs, I've got a Gmail account, I've set up an iGoogle Homepage and put my Gmail on it aswell as setting up a Google Documents and Google Calendar and displaying both on my Homepage. I've almost totally managed to discard M$ Word and Excel Completely by using Google docs and I think if i had Open Office Installed on my computer at home and at work I almost would completely.
Whats the Downside to all this, yep its on the internet, and helpfully, all connected by one password, one password all connected to my Gmail. So when I try and change my password last week to something more secure and successfully do it, and I even grin when google tells me my password is "Strong". Wow, well, next time i go to type in my password and it tells me i'm incorrect several times I'm a bit annoyed understandably.
"It's OK" Google security tells me, "We've just sent an email to the secondary account you indicated during your sign up".... fantastic, I let that domain go when I was moving, so I no longer have access to that particular account. What can I do? Not much, wait the mandatory 5 days for google to ask me my secret question. It was hell! The only thing that made the last few days go quicker was the fact I've been sick.
So, today it let me in...first things first set up a new password... carefully!
Next check my gmail account.... now this will sound harsh.... 58 messages in 5 days... select all, delete. What mail? No I scanned it first, nothing i wanted to read, deleting it wouldnt really leave me with much guilt.
Next was the calendar.... updated a couple of things, deleted a few things, and then fixed up the homepage and GTalk. Then I thought, should probably blog this... its the most ungeeky stupid thing i've managed to do since getting phished years ago.
Learn from my example people.... passwords are important and should be strong, but not so strong you cant get into your account!!!!
