Yesterday Google launched Street view, which is just like it sounds, you can now look up an address and see what the whole street looks like and even wander around the neighborhood, like you would in a Quicktime VR. Most of Australia is done, where as the rest of the World is not quite done. So, the first thing you will do, like me, and EVERYONE i've showed in my office at work, is go and have a lookat your house and possibly try and show it to your colleagues. Well, thats whats happened in our office this morning when i showed my colleagues. They all showed me their neighborhoods and I showed them mine.
But, legalised stalkng aside this has great uses. For instance, i currently have the fun task of looking at possible sites for a training centre in the CBD. A tough task which involves me getting on my bike and riding to various places close to the CBD and looking at the outside of buildings to get a feel for the building to suburb and neighborhood. This way I can look at them without leaving my desk. On that note, because Domain.com.au of the fairfax group released their streetview a few hours later and touted it for the same thing. This is useful for non lazy purposes too. I was trying this morning to convince someone that a property was in a great spot by telling them to look at it on street view. So I also had to explain how to use it aswell. They didnt look at the property.... they looked at their house....
C'est La Vie, this is definitley a cool tool. Now you can go on holidays, without having to pay the airfare or go to bagdad and not get shot. .....forget that. Just go and check out your house.
