A friend who's currently living and working in the UK introduced me to Twitter about a month or so, I've resisted joining until this week when my younger sister sent me an email invitation. I cant be out-geeked by younger sister now can I (?) so I immediatley joined up on Friday.
The reason I didnt join immediatley before hand is that I couldnt really see a reason to, and to be honest I still cant, in a way it seems like another social networking site where the aim of the game is to see how many popularity points you can stack up by having people "Follow" you. Again, I'm not particularly sure I want people following me, that may as well be legalised stalking. So did I put in my full name or not.... No. Its rascuache. So no more freaky internet stalkers for me! (Oh and if you are still following me person who shall remain unnamed....I log IP's :) Smile, you're on camera, now kindly *&%# off). Anyway, from looking at other peoples twitters who are public (mine arent) they're using them for good and not evil. Announcing new blog posts, political agendas, pining for long lost 80's TV shows and other sorts of entertaining snippets they obviously so arrogantly think the world will be interested in. I wonder if Paris Hilton has one.... she could dictate style to the unwashed masses.... "Uhhhhhh, I think chihuaha's are.... uh, not cool anymore.... mine, like totally pee pee'd in my car..... so like, I just haaad to get rid of it." (maybe not!)
So I've announced to the world that I bought shoes today. Maybe I should announce something more interesting.
Lately Also I've been buying more things online, Amazon was the first. I'm now kind of hooked. I first bought a CD i've been looking for, for ages and it came in 2 weeks and was less than 15 dollars all up. Then I ordered a DVD which, is banned here, for a friend of mine, that too came quickly. So now, I've been to the Design festival and the Melbourne Stencil Festival as well as some fashion shows and I'm looking at books I saw at those which, were up around the 100 dollar mark and checking out how much less I can pay on Amazon. Well, turns out they are reasonably cheaper, half price on one item without postage, but its the issue of postage. Because they're not light items and they're coming from the US the Postage is more. I might have to wait a while. But its good to know that they're there when i have the money and the inclination.
The other new activity is Crafty! I joined a site called Cut Out and Keep a few months ago after another friend sent me a very cool tutorial on making Vinyl Record Bowls in the oven. I've found many a thing to do on a rainy day on there. I'm currently about to go into using Shrink Plastic to make some jewellry for my younger sisters birthday this month. But there are many more ideas on this site, which effectively takes the Sewing Circle of old, into the present day. Since joining this site I've also, almost finished an old Cross Stitch kit thats been hanging around me since childhood, and begun taking sewing classes (next month I make an Apron!). Funnily Enough and Domestic as these may sound its also incredibly rewarding making something and finishing it and admiring your handiwork in a concrete sense. But one has to resist the temptation to surround oneself with crap.
