Run Mac OS X on an Eepc

The Asus Eeepc is a cheap laptop, like ultra cheap at 300 dollars or there abouts and ultra small, its got about a 9 inch screen and a tiny keyboard. Its also extremely hackable as this article shows, some enterprising soul has figured out how to run Mac OS X (yes it violates the terms of the Apple EULA, but so does just about everything else that involves porting Mac OS X to hardware other than Apples).

It looks pretty sweet, and seems pretty snappy aswell. According to the How to on Wired it runs at about the speed of a late model G5 Laptop. But because its hacked there are a few drawbacks,

  1. No Sound
  2. No Flash
  3. Ethernet Doesnt Work
  4. Wifi needs a 3rd party App
  5. No Function key support for things like volume and screen brightness.
But that last one, if theres no sound does the fact that you cant actually make the silence more deafening actually matter?

Aaanyway, there are some seriously hot shots of the system running at the site and a very slow video. I am actually thinking about trying this out on my fiances eepc for some practice.

Interestingly enough there is a comment from the guy who actually took the photos and figured it all out on the site in the Discussion Tab.

A few things. 1. It might have been nice to ask to use my photos. Thanks for the credit. 2. Drop in another mac based wifi card and you don't need to use those wifi drivers. 3. The best install I've used is the IATKOS V4i disk. Very very easy to do. 4. There is also the Brazil Mac option. Harder but still another option.

So I suppose I should credit Gregory Cohen here for actually working this out and taking these lovely pictures.... Or I should High 5 the person who write the subsequent smackdown

Why are you peeved they violated your license? You violated Apple's. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Given that there are several very nice Free operating system available, I think you're undermining Linux and MacOS X at the same time. Way to go, dude. Fight the man and fight the peon at the same time. Anarchy forever. I would profess solidarity, but that would be way anti-anarchic.
Oh yeah... Nice one bruva.

I seriously hope the keep this up long enough for me to try it out, the fact that they have managed to get photoshop to run on an eeepc is pretty impressive to me. For the full tutorial, extra links and Video.... go here. For the Torrent search for the relevant systems go here and here

But there seems to be instructions for this on Maceee.com aswell

And if you have been living under a rock and dont know what an Asus Eeepc is go here
